Alternative Ways To Stay Connected During The Coronavirus Outbreak

For the time being, we are living with strict rules as to how and when we can leave our homes, only venturing outside of a 2km radius for essentials such as food and medicine. This can make staying connected to our friends and loved ones that little bit more difficult. Meeting up in the local pub for a drink, heading out for a coffee, or brunch is now all impossible with closures and social distancing.

So what are the alternatives? How can we stay social and connected with our loved ones for the foreseeable future? We’ve rounded up alternative ways to stay connected during the coronavirus outbreak.

Have A Quiz Night

You may have seen this doing the rounds on social media and we can see why, it’s a really fun concept and a great way to get all of the family together. Set up a group video call and assign a quiz master. The format is basically the same, set a timer, ask questions, the highest amount of right answers wins! It might be tempting to be sneaky and try and cheat but we wouldn’t recommend it...

Have A Virtual Brunch Date

Missing your best friends? Maybe it’s been ages since you and your mum had brunch out? Whilst you still have to stay inside, you can have a virtual brunch date and catch ups with your friends and family fairly easily! Agree a time and date, set your dish and hop on a video call. Apps like Skype, Facetime, or Zoom make these video calls really easy and fun. It’s not the exact same as getting out and about to socialise, but for now it’s a pretty good alternative!

Watch A Movie

A lot of movies that were supposed to have been released in cinemas over the next few weeks are instead coming to various on-demand and subscription services straight to our TVs. If there’s been a movie you’ve planned to see with a friend, why not download it to your TV, reserve the sitting room, grab some snacks and video call your bestie. Make sure to start it at the exact same time though.

Other alternatives include extensions like Netflix Party, and Disney Plus Party.

Join An Online Book Club

We previously spoke about how reading can really help improve your mental well-being by reducing stress levels during these times. Reading can also be a very social thing, with book clubs becoming more and more popular. Online book clubs have really taken over social media since the COVID-19 outbreak. Whilst it is online and not one on one communication, it’s still nice to feel connected to a community in these times.

And remember, you can take control of your and your family’s health info at this time by setting up a free Jinga Life account!
