Creating Memories This Christmastime

Christmas can be very overhyped at times. With the pressure and stress to have the ‘perfect’ Christmas, buy the ‘perfect’ gifts, and the expectation to be 100% happy, 100% of the time, we can often forget what Christmas is really about. This time of year is the perfect time to create memories with your family! Christmas gifts come and go, but your memories will last a lifetime. 

Here are some ideas to create memories this Christmas: 

Get Out Of The House

Yes, it’s freezing, and yes it is tempting to stay inside with the central heating and warm fire, but there’s plenty of festive things to do out of the house. So get out and make some memories! Some ideas for all the family include: 

Ice Skating 

Most towns will have an ice rink installed for the festive season. Grab your kids, parents, friends and skates and get going! You may not be a pro but you’ll have lots of laughs. Grab a hot chocolate afterwards and you’ll be in ultra festive mode. 

A Drive-In Movie 

Retro Drive-In have a lot of different locations across Ireland. Over the festive period, they show a lot of different Christmas movies. Pack the family into the car, stock up on snacks and some popcorn and enjoy a movie, retro style! 

Christmas Markets 

Christmas markets are popping up all over the place. They’re a great way to get in the festive mood, get out of the house, and support local businesses. Get some hot chocolate, (or mulled wine for the adults) and soak up the festive atmosphere. If you feel like going further afield, Europe is renowned for its amazing Christmas markets.

Play Some Games 

It would seem that technology has taken over when it comes to games. So this festive season, why not gather your family and/or friends and have a board game night? Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, and Snakes and Ladders are firm favourites. If you don’t have any board games, a game of cards can be just as fun, or try a classic game of charades or a murder mystery. You’ll have lots of fun, no matter what your age, and you’ll create lovely memories. 

Get Your Bake-Off On! 

Why not host a festive bake-off style day with your friends or kids? Even if you’re not the best of bakers, you’ll have lots of fun! Pop on some festive music, and create great memories whilst creating some tasty Christmas treats! If all goes well, you could give your baked goods as gifts to family, friends or neighbours. 

Get Cosy

So you’ve done the Christmas markets, you’ve played ALL the games, now it’s time to get cosy! Create a comfy and cosy festive vibe with your friends, family or kids by making a den or fort. Christmas lights, blankets and loads of pillows and cushions are all essential to the perfect festive fort. Make some tasty hot chocolate, pop on your favourite Christmas movies (matching pyjamas optional) and get cosy.
